As always, DON'T SHOP.. ADOPT. There are plenty of gems via shelters or rescue groups.
I just want to agree with your "Don't shop. . .Adopt" comment. The last dog my family had was a Papillon that we got from an animal shelter. She was a wonderful dog, and was a valued member of our family for 14 years. Whatever kind of dog a person wants, the local shelter probably has (or will soon have). You can save an animal and get a new friend at the same time.
